Frequently Asked Questions about Logging into the VOICE/CSEA Members Only Area

Q: How can I use my e-mail address to log in?
A:When you activated your account, you supplied a personal e-mail address and/or a work e-mail address. You may sign in using your username and password, OR your personal or work e-mail address (if you provided them to us) and your password. You may visit the e-mail settings page anytime to change your personal and/or work e-mail addresses, and use them to sign in instead of your username at any time.

Q: I'm logging in for the first time. How do I log in?
A: First, click on the "Not Registered?" button on the left menu. You will be asked to provide an e-mail address, and your CSEA ID number. Then click the "activate" button. You will then be issued a username. Your initial password is your CSEA ID. You will be asked to immediately change your password and confirm your e-mail address. Note: You must complete this step before logging in for the first time.

Q: Why do I sometimes get a message saying "you are about to enter a non-secure site...?"
A: Much of the CSEA website content is information that does not contain any personally identifiable material, such as part of the Social Security number, or login usernames and passwords. Whenever there is a need to collect this type of information, such as upon registration or login, your information is submitted through a secure site with industry-standard protection. Depending on the material you have requested, you may then be transferred back to a non-secure site, which causes your browser to give you these messages. All this means is the content you are seeing is not personally identifiable. CSEA makes every effort to protect member information, so it is normal to see this message regularly when visiting the CSEA website, if you visit pages which contain sensitive and/or personally identifiable information. It does not mean in any way that your information is not secure.

Q: I've entered my username and password, but the system won't let me in.
A: Your username may contain numerals at the end, if more than one member has the same name as you. For instance, Pat Member's username would be "memberp," the last name and first initial of the first name. If there are more than one Pat Members in CSEA, then "memberp1" and "memberp2" would be issued as usernames. Sometimes the "1" is mistaken for a lowercase "L."
Your password is case sensitive, so you need to enter is exactly as you typed it the first time. If your password is "SandyBeach" and you enter "sandybeach," you will not be able to log in.

Q: I am using America Online's new browser and have trouble logging in to the CSEA web site.
A:The AOL v. 9.0 browser appears to have some bugs related to secure online web sites and connections. We suggest checking with the AOL Help Desk, or using a different browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Q: Why is the site asking me to confirm my email address?
A:Your email address will be used to send you notifications of changes to your account, as a security precaution. Your email address may also be used to contact you with important CSEA information. For that reason, we request a confirmation that you are able to successfully receive an email from CSEA. Generating a confirmation creates and sends you an email with a link you may then click on to let us know you received it.
